SCAMwatch is a website run by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC). The aim of SCAMwatch is to provide information to consumers and small business about how to recognise, avoid and report scams. Scams that are reported to SCAMwatch will be analysed by the ACCC.

Alert - 22 September 2008
SCAMwatch is warning consumers to be wary of telemarketing calls informing recipients that they have won a 'free' holiday. The pre-recorded voice message instructs the recipient to dial 9 to claim their price. Once this is done, the recipient is connected to an operator who then 'sells' the holiday package. SCAMwatch is warning consumers about a telemarketing survey which focuses on casinos in various Australian cities, including Canberra. This appears to be the first step in a new scam that has been targeting Australian consumers to convince them to provide money and personal information to scammers.
