Safer Internet Day - 10 February 2009
Safer Internet Day takes place each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology, especially amongst children and young people across the world.
Since commencing in 2004, participation in this event has been steadily growing, with an increase in general awareness and stronger involvement of relevant stakeholders in the field of internet safety.
In 2008 a total of 56 countries took part in Safer Internet Day, organising local, national and international events including safety awareness sessions in schools, competitions for young people, public meetings and conferences.
Tasmania Police is committed to promoting safe and secure online technology, and is engaged in collaborative work with other organisations in the fight against cyber crime, especially where children and young people are the victims.
