Victims of Crime
The Victims Support Service is part of the Department of Justice. The unit is dedicated to victims of crime and was established in affiliation with Victim Support Australasia.
The Victims Support Service has offices located in Hobart, Launceston, Devonport and Burnie and aims to:
- Provide initial emotional support and advice to victims
- Assist victims who may need help to cope with traumatic symptoms
- Refer victims to appropriate personal and community services
- Assist victims through the police, court and legal process
- Inform victims of Criminal Injuries Compensation issues, and
- Provide information on the offender progress through the system.
