Vehicle Clamping and Confiscation
Tasmania Police is policing new vehicle clamping and confiscation laws to deter people from using their vehicles in an irresponsible and dangerous manner on our roads.
The new legislation permits police to clamp or confiscate vehicles for a range of prescribed offences including:
- Excessive noise, smoke, speed, loss of traction and racing
- Trespass, where a vehicle is used
- Vehicle racing without a permit
- Dangerous, reckless and negligent driving
- Evading police
- Exceeding the speed limit by 45 km/h or more, and
- Driving whilst disqualified on a second or subsequent occasion.
Vehicle clamping and confiscation provides police with a powerful deterrent to anyone contemplating irresponsible behaviour behind the wheel.
