Blue Ribbon Cup

The Tasmania Police Charity Trust was kindly invited by the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation to be involved in proceedings to raise monies prior to and during the Blue Ribbon Cup football match. The Blue Ribbon Cup, between Hawthorn and St Kilda Football Clubs, was held at Launceston’s Aurora Stadium on 8 August 2009.

Buff the Police Dog Puppy was used to raise funds for Children’s Wards in Tasmanian hospitals. Buff was a huge hit – being made available for sale on the day of the Blue Ribbon Cup and also prior to the Event, directly from the Children’s Wards around the State.

Discussions were held prior to the event with the Paediatric Unit of Launceston General Hospital who were delighted to be a part of proceedings on the day of the big game.

The Hawthorn Football Club was also delighted to assist the Tasmania Police Charity Trust in promoting the Event and in this regard high profile Hawthorn player Buddy Franklin visited the Launceston General Hospital’s Children’s Ward together with uniformed police officers plus of course Buff.

The Blue Ribbon Cup Event was extremely successful. Buff was so popular that $10,000 of funds were raised. $2,500 was distributed to each of the Children’s Wards located at Launceston General Hospital, Royal Hobart Hospital, North-West General Hospital and the Mersey Hospital.
