Telstra and Charity Trust Golf Day

Telstra and Tasmania Police Charity Trust Golf Day participants. The Telstra and Tasmania Police Charity Trust Golf Day is one of our most anticipated events. The inaugural event was held in 2007, and the event has been held bi-annually since then raising over $51,000 for the Trust.

The Four Person Ambrose competition is open to all golfers of varying capabilities, from those who have never even picked up a golf club before, to avid golfing enthusiasts.  The competition is held at the superbly maintained Tasmania Golf Club, Barilla Bay.  Team entry provides each golfer with a showbag upon arrival, on-course refreshments, a barbeque during the round, and lunch in the Club House at the conclusion of the event.   There is also a spirited auction following the competition, and this year auction items included everything from valuable sporting memorabilia to technology packages such as iPads and Jam Boxes to accommodation and dining vouchers.

This year, 23 enthusiastic teams signed up to participate in the event, which occurred on 4 November 2011.  On the day of the event the weather was glorious – the sun was shining and the Tasmania Golf Course looked spectactular.  It was clear to the 92 golfers present, that they were in for a fabulous day of golf.

This is the third time for which Telstra has readily agreed to co-sponsor the event with the Tasmania Police Charity Trust.  The enthusiastic Telstra Team underwrite many aspects of the event, assist in managing the day’s competition, and contribute to the prizes and auction items.  The event certainly could not be possible and would not be so successful, without our friends at Telstra, who strive to make this day a memorable day for all involved.

Amidst the competition and the camaraderie, valuable funds are raised on behalf of the Tasmania Police Charity Trust.  This year, a total of $17,169 was raised on the day, by way of team entry fees and funds raised through the auction.  These funds will be utilised to assist disadvantaged members of the Tasmanian community, through Charity Trust projects and donations to Tasmanian charitable organisations. Such a successful outcome could also not be achieved without the support of sponsors and organisations that have willingly donated items to be used as auction items.  Of particular note is the valuable support extended by the Federal Group, Corporate Express, Westpac, Polycom Australia Pty Ltd. and McAfee Australia.

Congratulations go to:

  • Cricket Tasmania Team who won the competition
  • the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources (DIER), who obtained second place, and
  • the Hazell Bros Team who took out third place.

The Tasmania Police Charity Trust would like to thank all our sponsors and supporters and the golfers who participated in the event – your combined efforts resulted in the most successful golf day to-date.

The next golf day has been scheduled for 8 November 2013 at the Tasmania Golf Club, Barilla Bay.
