Testimony from Chair, D L Hine
Tasmania Police Charity Trust
As the Chair of the Tasmania Police Charity Trust, I can sincerely say that the Trust is dedicated to assisting disadvantaged people in our community. We are proud of our commitment in raising funds for those in need and 100% of these funds are redistributed back to the community.
The Charity Trust motivates employees within the Department of Police and Emergency Management to assist members in the community who are struggling. Employees are encouraged to contribute to the Trust through payroll deductions. The Tasmania Police Charity Trust has legal status, through incorporation with the development of a Constitution, and donations can be received on a tax-deductible basis.
Funds raised support nominated charities and individuals within Tasmania. Charities who are happy to be associated with us include Ronald McDonald House, Cerebral Palsy Tasmania, Down Syndrome Tasmania, Special Olympics Tasmania and Clown Doctors, just to name a few. We also support Kids Kick Start Targa on an annual basis. This event provides an opportunity for approximately 70 disadvantaged children to travel in a Targa circuit of the Country Club Casino in race-prepared Targa vehicles and marked police cars. Each child on the day takes home a Tasmania Police Charity Trust showbag, brimming with gifts.
To assist in fundraising, we sell high quality merchandise - Constable T BearTM and BuffTM the Police Dog Puppy. We also organise fundraising events during the year, ranging from golf days, quiz nights, to the Annual Tasmania Police Charity Trust Hobart-Burnie Bike Ride. The Bike Ride has been extremely successful during the past three years, and has generated a total of $55,000 in support of Down Syndrome Tasmania and $32,000 in support of Ronald McDonald House. The 2010 Annual Bike Ride will support Camp Quality.
The Tasmania Police Charity Trust mission is to make a difference in people’s lives. I urge you to make a difference too. You can do this by contributing to the Tasmania Police Charity Trust by donating directly to the Trust or even making the Trust a beneficiary in your Will. I thank you for your interest in the Tasmania Police Charity Trust.
