#12 – Don’t Speed Being Overtaken

#12 – Tuesday, 07 March 2017 – Don’t Speed Up While Being Overtaken

Traffic Tuesday graphic - Don't Speed Up While Being Overtaken

That pedal next to the brake… don’t use it to speed up while being overtaken…

Picture this… you’re driving at 100km in the 110km zone on a highway… while in the double lane overtaking area a car from behind indicates to overtake you… so you deliberately increase your speed to 110km while they’re attempting to overtake… This is unsafe and if you are intercepted by police you face a fine of $140 – yes it is an offence, which is ‘Increase speed while being overtaken and before overtaking vehicle has safely returned’.

If you’re driving slowly and there is a large line of vehicles behind you, pull over and let them pass you, it will add less than a few minutes to your trip and help make our roads safer. If you drive slowly and cause traffic congestion and you are intercepted by police you could face a fine of $100 – yes it is an offence, which is ‘Drive without reasonable consideration for other road users’.
