Launceston Firearms Amnesty

The greater Launceston community is advised that Tasmania Police will be holding a firearms amnesty at Churchill Park Sports Ground in Invermay next month.

Anyone with unwanted, unregistered, or illegal firearms can bring them to the sports ground, located at the end of Forster Street, between 9am and 5pm on Thursday 30 May 2019.

There are no penalties associated with surrendering firearms during an amnesty regardless of how they may have come into people’s possession.  The firearms will be accepted by police without question and destroyed.

“Our advice to anyone who wants to hand over a firearm or ammunition is to ensure the firearm is unloaded prior to transporting it. Upon arriving at the sports ground please park in the designated area where a police officer will assist”,” Acting Sergeant Gavin Spencer said.

Members of the public can also attend their local police station at any time and speak to officers in relation to information they may have regarding firearm crime or any other offences.
