Prohibited firearms seized from licenced firearms dealer

A 58 year old Derwent Valley man has been charged with multiple firearms offences and had his firearms dealers licence suspended, following an unannounced inspection by Tasmania Police.

During the inspection officers from Firearms Services discovered six unregistered semi-automatic prohibited firearms and more than 90 kilograms of reloading powder.

The man was bailed and will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

Tasmania has a permanent firearms amnesty where illegal or unwanted firearms can be surrendered to a police station without fear of prosecution.

Anyone wishing to use the amnesty must contact the station before attending to advise them of the matter.
