Quizzing the way to the Special Olympics
Competing in the Special Olympics is a step closer for keen basketballer Mitch Huxley after members and friends of the DPEM raised more than $4,800 at the annual quiz night in September 2015.
The quiz, held at the Police Academy and organised by Mitch’s dad, Inspector Laurie Huxley, saw nearly 200 people compete for the cause.
While some teams clearly took the competition more seriously than others, the winners on the night were of course the Tasmanian Special Olympics athletes.
The team from Ambulance Tasmania took out quiz honours.
Quiz Master, Inspector David Plumpton, shared the microphone with Mitch (aged 27) and dished out prizes from the major sponsors: MyState Financial, Launceston Country Club Casino, Southern Machinery, Bendigo Bank and the Express Service Centre (key cutting etc.) at Eastlands.
The money raised will go to Special Olympics Tasmania to help athletes with intellectual disabilities compete in the Special Olympics.
