#31 – Avoid Animals on Road

Fatal and serious crashes have been caused in Tasmania by drivers attempting to avoid animals on our roads – the unfortunate truth is that sometimes trying to avoid an animal while driving isn’t safe.

If you can safely stop or manoeuvre at slow speed around an animal on the road consider doing so, but if you’re travelling at speed, we’re sorry to say, it’s safer to collide with the animal than potentially cause a crash and injure or kill yourself and/or someone else.

If you do collide with an animal or you find an injured animal on the road and you stop to check it, never park in a position where you have to walk onto the road and put yourself at risk of being hit by a passing vehicle.
