Charges laid – $925,000 theft from elderly woman

A 60 year old Hobart man has been charged with stealing $925,000 from a 94-year old Hobart woman.

In late 2015, Tasmania Police’s Fraud & e-Crime Investigation Services received a complaint in relation to a local financial planner suspected of stealing a large sum of money from one of his clients.

As a result of a lengthy and detailed investigation, on the 5th February 2016, investigators interviewed and charged the man, who admitted stealing the money over the past six years.

The man was remanded in custody at his request, pleaded guilty and has been committed to the Supreme Court for sentencing next month.
