Police donate supplies to the Salvos

Tasmania Police has donated 30 boxes of surplus clothing and boots to the Salvation Army to help Tasmanians in need.

Senior Sergeant Luke Manhood handed over the supplies to Salvation Army representatives at the Salvation Army headquarters in Hobart today.

“Today we rehomed a large quantity of shoes, belts, trousers, and fleece jackets, as well as a pallet load of shirts with their badges cut off that than can be sold for rags,” Senior Sgt Manhood said.

“As we are coming into winter months, the demand for warm clothing items increases, and Tasmania Police is proud to do their part.

“We attempt to recycle and reuse what we can, and have in the past made similar donations of usable items to various local charities.”

“In the past we have also made donations to smaller police forces such as the Solomon Islands. These items often include generically police marked items, such as hi-vis jackets, vests, and rain coats, in addition to other new and near new items that for various reasons (eg new uniform roll out) are no longer utilised by Tasmania Police.”

“This time, we have decided to donate to our local Salvation Army, who are dedicated to help Tasmanians in need.”

The Salvation Army’s Mark Foyle said that the clothing would be given out to people who are doing it tough around Tasmania, providing them with sturdy hard wearing warm clothing and footwear for the coming winter.
