Theft of historic brass plaques from Clark Dam

Police are seeking information from the public about the theft of two historically valuable bronze plaques from the Clark Dam at Butler’s Gorge near Tarraleah.

The plaques commemorate the naming and opening of the Clark Dam in 1952.

They are approximately 60cmx 45cm and 60cm x 75cm.

They were stolen between 8 December, 2015 and 14 December, 2015.

Investigating officer, Senior Constable Paul Britten, said:

“There are a couple of key reasons we think someone may have taken them.

“It might be that they plan to sell them on for their scrap metal value, or it might be that someone sees them as a sort of souvenir or trophy to be kept.

“With such historic value we hope they are still intact.

“We’re calling for the person or people who took the plaques to hand them in to police so they can be reinstated in their historic position,” he said.

Anyone who knows anything about the theft that could help the police investigation is asked to call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
