Arson charges

On Saturday 10 September 2011, Tasmania Police and Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) responded to a house fire at 9 Gangell Place, Herdsmans Cove.

The fire was extinguished by Fire Officers soon after arrival; however, the residence sustained extensive damage as a result.

The house has been the target of two previous arson attacks.   There were no occupants in the house at the time of the fire.  The estimated cost of damage was in excess of $50,000.

On Sunday 11 September 2011, Eastern Criminal Investigation Branch Operation Task Force Icarus, charged three male youths with two counts of arson relating to the address.  One count for yesterday and the other for the 2 September.

The youths have been charged and detained for an out of hour’s court sitting on Sunday 11 September 2011.

Investigators are gratefully for the critical information that was provided by members of the public to assist in the resolution of these arsons.
