Assault at Strahan

Officers from Strahan Police and Burnie CIB are investigating an incident that occurred outside Hamers Hotel, Esplanade Strahan shortly after 8pm last night (Thursday 26/1/12).

A male, whose name will not be released at this time but is believed to have been visiting the area from interstate, became involved in an altercation with another two male persons.

He was subsequently assaulted and as a result received injuries to his head and a gash to his leg.

Witnesses observed a knife however; it is yet to be confirmed as to how the leg injury was inflicted or by whom. 

The male is currently receiving treatment at the North West Regional Hospital at Burnie and is said to be in a satisfactory condition.

Detective Senior Sergeant Richard Chugg said

“this is a very unusual event for Strahan. I can indicate that due to the assistance of a number of local residents we are following a specific line of inquiry in regard to the offenders”.
