Australia Day Honours for Police Officers
Two recently appointed Police Commanders have been recognised in this year's Australia Day Honours.
Amassing 55 years of service between them, Commanders Tony Cerritelli and Mark Mewis have a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Commander Cerritelli has received international recognition for his work in the field of Disaster Victim identification.
He is currently the Deputy Chair of the Australasian Disaster Victim Indentification Committee (ADVIC) and later this year will assume the role of Chair of the ADVIC, which will involve representing the Australasian region internationally for two years.
"Throughout a distinguished police career spanning 25 years, Commander Cerritelli has been awarded the Commissioners medal in recognition of outstanding qualities. His leadership skills, devotion to duty and diligence are self evident," said the Acting Commissioner of Police Scott Tilyard.
Commander Cerritelli began his career in Hobart uniform and worked notably within the Southern District and internationally since. His experience encompasses criminal investigations, DVI and management of uniform policing.
Commander Mark Mewis has dedicated his career to professional development, graduating with a Masters of Police Studies in 2010 and recently appointed as the Commander, Human Resources.
Commander Mewis has developed and written a number of papers for the Australian Institute of Police Management combining a policing career with research and analysis.
"Commander Mewisís devotion to duty and diligence has been recognised throughout his career," Mr Tilyard said.
"He was appointed as Program Director of Project Meridian in 2008 and has performed significant periods of relief at the level of Commander across various commands.
"Commander Mewis and Cerritelli have made valuable contributions to policing in Tasmania and are both very worthy recipients of the Australia Police Medal," Mr Tilyard said.
