Bandidos Member charged with drug trafficking

A 55-year-old man from Claremont has been charged with drug trafficking after being arrested in a joint operation between Tasmania Police’s Serious Organised Crime Division and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) National Anti-Gangs Squad this morning.

The man has been charged in relation to the trafficking of more than half a kilo of methylamphetamine (ICE) and 83 grams of cocaine, which was intercepted on the Spirit of Tasmania in Devonport last December.

The Claremont man, who at the time of the offence was the President of the Hobart Chapter of the Bandidos Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, was arrested and charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance. He will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court this afternoon.

“This arrest follows on from the large-scale police operation conducted at Dover on 10 June 2020,” said Detective Acting Inspector Nikala Parsons.

“Seven people have now been charged in connection with this seizure.”

“The disruption of these organised criminal entities within Tasmania will continue through the collaborative efforts of our partnership agencies, such as the National Anti-Gangs Squad.”
