Bruny Island rescue

About 1.35am today the Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter was tasked to search for a missing 12 year old Blackmans Bay boy believed to have been walking on the Fluted Cape Track near Adventure Bay on Bruny Island.

He was last seen at about 8.30pm on Sunday night.

An initial aerial search in darkness failed to locate the boy.  A second search at first light involved local police, SES volunteers on foot and the Westpac Police Rescue helicopter.

The boy was located by the helicopter at 6.10am in dense bushland about 300m inland from Fluted Cape.  An Intensive Care Paramedic was winched down to the boy.  He was winched to safety and flown to waiting family at Adventure Bay, where he was treated for minor cuts and abrasions.
