Western Australian Online Child Exploitation Squad have been conducting an on-line grooming investigation whereby a 25 year old Tasmanian man from Acton Park was arrested on 4 May 2013 in Perth for Intent to procure a person believed to be under 16 years for sexual activity.

Tasmania Police are assisting Western Australia Police with the investigation.

Tasmania Police offer the following internet safety tips for users on social networking or similar sites:

– Choose a non identifiable, non gender specific user name
– Never give out personal information whilst using instant messaging or other social networking sites such as your name, address and pictures of yourself.
– Never accept a friend, file or download from a person you don’t know.
– Treat strangers on the internet the same as you would treat strangers in real life.
