Deliberately lit fire – Carlton River

A 65 year old Carlton River man will be proceeded against by summons for lighting a fire on his property during a Fire Permit Period without a permit.

The Tasmania Fire Service was called to attend the address about 2pm on 6 January 2018. The fire was extinguished a short time later. The fire was attended by crews from the Dodges Ferry and Primrose Sands Fire Brigades as well as officers from Sorell Police.

Investigations revealed that the owner of the property had set fire to some shrubbery the evening prior and believed that it had been fully extinguished.  Due to the weather conditions the fire reignited and caused damage to about 1 hectare of his property.

Tasmania Police would like to remind people that it is an offence to light a fire without a permit during a Fire Permit Period and that the potential dangers in doing so could be catastrophic.
