DRIVER DETECTED MORE THAN THREE TIMES THE ALCOHOL LIMIT

A 37-year-old Somerset man has been bailed to appear in court early next year after he was detected driving with more than three times the legal alcohol limit in the state’s North-West overnight.

Just after 1am this morning, police detected a vehicle being driven erratically on the Bass Highway near the Cloverlea nursery at Somerset.

After pulling over the driver, police noted the vehicle had a flat left rear tyre.

The driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. He subsequently returned a reading of 0.180 after an evidential breath analysis at the Burnie Police Station.

He was bailed to appear in court on 29 January next year.

Acting Inspector Steve Jones said the risks of driving while over the limit were very real.

“If you get behind the wheel of a vehicle when you’re under the influence of alcohol or drugs you’re putting yourself and others at the risk of serious injury and death,” Acting Inspector Jones said.

“Don’t do it, if you’re planning on drinking please make a responsible decision on how to get home safely and never get behind the wheel of a vehicle.”
