Fatal Pedestrian Crash

A 27 year old male died as the result of being struck by a motor vehicle on Main Road, Derwent Park between the Metro complex and the Carlyle Hotel at 8:09pm on Thursday the 11th day of October 2012.

The male was attempting to cross the road from west to east.  He has been struck by a blue Subaru Impreza sedan which was travelling in a northerly direction in the north bound lane. The pedestrian was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital by ambulance but unfortunately was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.  The driver of the Subaru a 20 year old male from Glenorchy was shaken but uninjured.

The north bound lane at Main Road Derwent Park between Springfield Avenue and Tregear Street was closed to traffic for approximately 4 hours whilst investigations into the crash were carried out. 

The crash investigator, Senior Constable Ann EDGE, would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the crash or seen the vehicle or pedestrian immediately prior to the incident.
