Fire affected areas on Tasman Peninsula declared a Serious Incident Site

Due to the serious nature of the fires on the Tasman Peninsula, the fire affected areas have been declared a Serious Incident Site under section 63B of the Police Offences Act.

The declaration has been made for the following reasons:

• Public Safety (downed power lines, falling power poles, falling trees, possible asbestos, and still erupting spot fires)
• Security of evacuated premises
• It is important evidence at the scene is not contaminated or compromised in any way

People must obey directions given by Police Officers within the Serious Incident Site.

The Arthur Highway remains closed for safety reasons. Police understand residents’ and visitors’ frustrations in wanting to return to their properties and/or leave the Tasman Peninsula. A priority for police is to allow movement to and from the Tasman Peninsula as soon as possible, however it is not possible at this stage.
