Firearms seizure

Approximately 1015pm last night at Godfrey Road Claremont, police received reports from the public that they heard what they believed to be a firearm being discharged once.

Glenorchy uniform police responded immediately and a search was conducted of a residence in Godfrey Road Claremont and two unregistered rifles were recovered.

As a result of investigations, a 43 year old male from Claremont was arrested and charged with possess firearm when not the holder of a firearm licence of the appropriate category, possess unregistered firearm, possess silencer and fail to comply with storage requirements.

He will appear in the Hobart court of petty sessions next month.
