Four in custody after Old Beach firearms incident

Police investigating a firearms incident at Old Beach earlier today have arrested four people during a day involving traffic operations and targeted searches in the Old Beach, Bridgewater and Gagebrook areas.

A 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were taken into custody at Bridgewater this morning, while an 18-year-old woman was taken into custody at Bridgewater about midday. Police arrested a 27-year-old man at Gagebrook about 1.35pm.

No charges have yet been laid and investigations are continuing.

The arrests follow a firearms incident at Old Beach about 7:35am today when a shotgun was allegedly discharged, once, after an altercation over a motor vehicle between two parties known to each other.

No one was wounded by a firearm, and there were no serious injuries reported.

Initial reports are the gun was fired while at the Old Beach property, before two men are alleged to have stolen a car and driven it to the Bridgewater area.

A man and a woman were located a short time later at Bridgewater in the stolen vehicle and arrested.

During this morning’s police presence at Bridgewater, the Jordan River Learning Federation Middle and Senior campus was closed about 7.50am for a short time as a precautionary measure while a search was conducted near the school.

As a result of investigations, police attended a separate Bridgewater property about 11.15am.

A woman is alleged to have driven from the property and tried to evade police, before being involved in a single-vehicle traffic crash on Gunn St. The woman was not injured and was arrested at the scene.

This afternoon, police conducted a search at a Gagebrook property where the second man believed to be involved in the morning firearms incident was arrested in bushland nearby and safely taken into custody.
