High Range Drink Driver Detected – Burnie

A 58 year old Burnie woman has had her driver’s licence immediately disqualified for 12 months after being charged with driving nearly five times over the legal limit.

The woman was detected when police intercepted her for a random breath test at 8.30pm on Sunday 30th December, 2018 in Upper Burnie.   A subsequent breath analysis returned a reading of 0.236 grams of alcohol in 210 litres of breath.

“This is particularly disappointing to see that drivers still take the risk to drive after consuming alcohol,” said Acting Sergeant Tracey Rogers. “This reading is extremely high and the woman is not only putting her own life at risk, but also that of other road users and members of the public.”

The woman was charged with exceed 0.05 and another traffic related offence.  She was subsequently issued with a notice immediately disqualifying her from driving for a period of 12months.  The woman was bailed to appear in court at a later date.

Police have been conducting Operation Crossroads since December 21 with the focus of reducing serious and fatal crashes and have so far conducted more than 19000 breath tests across the state.
