Male arrested following motor vehicle stealing Hobart

“Police have charged an 18 year old man following a series of incidents in Hobart on Friday evening.

At approximately 6:35pm on Friday, 13 February 2026, an 18 year old man and an associate were involved in a crash at the intersection of Argyle and Macquarie Streets after allegedly riding a stolen motorbike through a red light.

A short time later, the man attempted to steal a moving vehicle on Campbell Street. The vehicle was occupied by an adult woman and her two young children aged 9 and 11. The offender, armed with a screwdriver, threatened the occupants in an attempt to take the vehicle.

With the assistance of several members of the public, police safely apprehended the man. He has been charged with multiple offences, including attempted aggravated carjacking, common assault, and motor vehicle stealing. He was detained in custody and will appear in court on 14 February 2026.
