Murder Charge
Detectives have today charged a 19 year old man from Hobart with murder.
The charges follows a shooting incident just prior to midnight on Friday 17 January 2014 a 41 year man was shot and subsequently died at a private house in Pine Avenue in Kingston. The 19 year old man is not related to the deceased man.
“We are quite satisfied that this violent and callous attack was not a random shooting and some degree of planning was involved,” said Detective Acting Inspector Joel.
“The man was arrested without incident on Sunday 19 January 2014 and later charged with murder at Hobart Police Station.
“The charge follows a painstaking investigation by Detectives and support staff,” he said.
“The response from the Kingston and wider community is overwhelming. Detectives would like to thank those people for coming forwarded with critical information that led to this arrest.
“I would also take this opportunity to praise the tenacity of the investigators and support staff who worked around the clock to find this man,” said Detective Acting Inspector Joel.
Detectives will allege that the 19 year old man was acting alone, although further arrests have not been ruled out.
“The local community is entitled to go about their business in safety and police will dedicate whatever resources are available to prevent and detect serious and violent crime,” he said.
Police are still appealing for anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers, and in particular, anyone who might have seen a light blue Mitsubishi Magna in the vicinity of Pine Avenue in Kingston.
