Operation Crossroads concluded at midnight on Sunday 3/1/2016.

The 12 day operation has seen over 27,000 random alcohol and drugs tests conducted.  From this 103 drink drivers and 67 drivers returning positive drug tests were removed from the state’s roads.

Another crash in the states north yesterday was a reminder of how vulnerable motor cycles are.   Cyclists and pedestrians are also equally as vulnerable.

Two more families are now coping with the life changing events of a serious crash. Our thoughts are with the families involved as they struggle to come to terms with what has happened.

No matter if the injuries are physical or psychological the impacts are significant and remain with you for life.  Operation Crossroads is conducted to prevent these incidents.

Tasmania Police is committed to making our roads a safer place and reducing the likelihood of serious and fatal crashes.  This is everyone’s responsibility.  Whether you drive, ride, cycle or are a passenger you have a responsibility to yourself and the other roads users around you.  We all need to be accountable for our actions on the roads.

Tasmania Police urges everyone to consider the potential impact of their poor driving behaviour on other road users and will continue to target the fatal five;

Speed

Seatbelts

Alcohol and Drugs

Distraction

Fatigue

Don’t let your life or some else’s be taken away or ruined forever.
