Police warn about under prepared vessels

Tasmania Police has warned that a number of well intentioned, but under-prepared, vessels are attempting to assist the community on the Tasman Peninsula.

A number of  vessels have become involved on an individual and private basis with attempts to provide support; regrettably some of these private vessels have proven inadequate for the task.

Marine Police wish to strongly advise that anyone travelling by boat to the Peninsula should ensure that the vessel and crew are capable of travelling safely and efficiently in rough weather.

In addition the crew should be prepared and equipped to stay on the Peninsula if weather conditions are bad.

Tasmania Police and other agencies are heavily committed in providing support into the Tasman Peninsula; poorly equipped or inadequate vessels getting into distress will detract from this effort and may lead to an unnecessary tragedy.
