Recruitment Update
The new course for Tasmania Police recruits will start on 29 July 2013.
For 28 weeks the Tasmania Police Academy will be home to 25 recruits while they undertake a course of study and physical training. The course involves a mix of theory and practical instruction as part of the police-specific curriculum.
The course curriculum has been developed in partnership with the University of Tasmania and provides a pathway for the trainees to obtain a tertiary qualification following their completion of the course.
The new recruits are aged between 19 and 51. They come from around the state with a range of previous occupations and experiences under their new utility belts.
It is expected these recruits will graduate at the end of February 2014.
“We are confident our recruits bring with them skills and experience, reflective of the ever changing needs and expectations of the communities we serve,” said Commander Mark Mewis.
“In addition to the recruit course, ‘fast-track” applicants continue to be processed with one former Tasmanian police officer re-commencing training last week and several more in the final stages of the application process,” said Commander Mewis.
Interstate police officers also feature in the list of applicants being processed for ‘fast-tracking’
Tasmania Police is funded to maintain 1,120 officers.
