Tasmania Police, in partnership with Tasmania Parks and Wildlife compliance officers (PWS) and Transport Tasmania, conducted a traffic operation in the Central Highlands over the weekend to promote public safety and ensure compliance with hunting regulations.

Senior Constable Jessica Weston said police were pleased the vast majority of motorists and hunters were found to be operating within the law.

“We commend those who were adhering to regulations and hunting responsibly,” she said.

“More than 300 vehicles were intercepted and inspected during the operation, with police, transport officers and PWS compliance officers conducting random breath tests, drug tests, vehicle, and firearm checks.”

“While we were pleased there were no detections of drink or drug driving, defect notices were issued to 16 motorists and one person was caught speeding.”

“We appreciate the cooperation of motorists and the hunting community and thank the PWS compliance officers and transport officers involved in this operation.”

“Joint enforcement efforts such as this will continue throughout the deer season to ensure public safety and raise awareness of firearms and hunting laws.”
