Update on search for Rachel Funari

Police divers searching waters around Bruny Island have not found any trace of missing United States national Rachel Funari.

Two police dive teams (four divers) today searched waters around Penguin Island and the waters at the base of the cliffs in the Fluted Cape area near sections where it is possible Ms Funari could have fallen from the track. A nearby dam was also searched.

It has been 14 days since Ms Funari was last seen at a shack on Bruny Island.

Yesterday a tracker/detection dog from New South Wales joined the search for the missing 35-year-old. A search of walking tracks and the foreshore at the base of the cliffs in the Fluted Cape area did not find any trace of Ms Funari.

It follows an extensive ground search conducted by SES, Police Search and Rescue and the Hobart Walking Club earlier in the week.

Today Ms Funari’s sister and some of her friends were escorted to the island by police and given a briefing of the search to date. The group walked the track which has been the focus of the search and were also shown the area from the water.
While the search will now be wound back it is still an active investigation and officers will continue to investigate the whereabouts of Ms Funari.
