Vehicle clamped after alleged hooning incident

Police have charged a 23-year-old man with multiple driving offences and clamped his car for six months following his arrest over a hooning-related incident at Howrah on Monday night.

The driver also underwent alcohol testing where he returned a result almost four times the legal limit (.199).

About 8.45pm on Monday, officers from Southern Road Policing Services responded to reports of a hooning driver at Howrah.

Police intercepted the vehicle in Ninabah St and allege the driver ran from the scene. The suspect was located a short time later and arrested.

The man was charged with:

• Evade police (aggravated circumstances)

• Drive while driver’s licence suspended

• Use unregistered motor vehicle

• Using a motor vehicle with no premium cover

• Drive a motor vehicle while exceeding prescribed alcohol limit

The man’s car has been clamped for six months and he is subject to a 12-month disqualification from driving, starting immediately.

Police continue to target hooning drivers and warn offenders that when you are caught, you will be separated from your car for a significant period of time. The minimum fine for an offence of aggravated evade police is in excess of $3000.
