A southern Tasmanian man has had his vehicle clamped for a period of 28 days by members of Road Policing Services after a mobile speed camera detected his vehicle exceeding the speed limit by more than 47km/h on 18 March 2023.

Acting Sergeant Shane Etherington of Road Police Services said the car was detected travelling at 147km/h in an 100km/h zone along the Lyell Highway at Granton.

“Speeding at any level is unsafe and places Tasmanian road users at risk,” said Acting Sergeant Etherington.

“All road users are reminded that police can and will clamp vehicles detected travelling at 45km/h or more above the speed limit. 

“Police follow up with drivers and vehicles that have been detected by speed cameras, and I implore every driver to heed the warning and slow down.

“Dangerous drivers will be removed from our roads and police will continue to clamp or seize vehicles detected travelling at excessive speeds. 

“Speeding puts the driver and other motorists at the very real risk of being killed or seriously injured in a crash.”
