Emergency+ smartphone app
A new smartphone app, Emergency+, will encourage people in Australia to call the right number for help in emergency and non-emergency situations.
More than 66% of calls to Triple Zero (000) are now made from mobile phones. But often people calling on their mobile don’t know their exact location, which is critical information in dispatching emergency services.
The Emergency + app uses the GPS function of smartphones to enable people to provide location information when they call Triple Zero (000).
The app also includes the option of calling the State Emergency Service (SES) 132 500 or Police Assistance Line 131 444 numbers, for non-life threatening incidents.
Other important national numbers such as Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000 and Health Direct Australia are also provided.
The Emergency+ app is available, free of charge, on iOS and Android devices through the Google Play store and Apple App Store.
