New Police Recruits
Twenty new Recruits have started their training to become police officers.
Recruit Course 2/2013 have moved into the Tasmania Police Academy and were sworn in as recruits on Tuesday, 1 October 2013 in front of an auditorium filled with proud parents, partners, family and friends.
For these 20, selected from the initial pool of 900 Expressions of Interest, the wait is now over and they can begin training for the career of their choice. Over the next 28 weeks, recruit training will include theoretical and practical assessments in all aspects of operational policing.
During the Christmas break, the 44 recruits from courses 1/2013 and 2/2013, will be on three week outstation periods where they will join frontline officers and gain practical experience working at the Taste of Tasmania and other public events around the state.
Recruit Course 2/2013 comprises of 9 women and 11 men, from 19-50 years of age. Their backgrounds are varied and they bring with them a range of experience, among the successful candidates are a 25 year old Honours Law student and a 47 year old Ex British Army Officer.
The new recruits are scheduled to graduate on 2 May 2014; upon successful completion of their studies.
A further five fast-trackers are also scheduled to start training at the Police Academy in mid-October 2013.
Tasmania Police recruiting needs have now been met for 2013/2014 and no further Expressions of Interest will be accepted.
