Demonstration in Hobart

At 11.35am on Wednesday 15th December 2010 members of the Still Wild Still Threatened Protest group undertook protest action at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Macquarie Street Hobart as part of world protest day.

The protest action entailed two members of the group climbing light poles at the intersection and extending a banner across the footpath citing, “The clock is ticking”.

The incident was negotiated to a successful resolution. The two men who climbed the light poles have been arrested and charged with the offence of committing a nuisance. Both men have been released from police custody and bailed to appear at the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

Inspector Glen Woolley, Officer-in-Charge of the Hobart Division said the incident was negotiated to a safe and peaceful resolution. During this incident police diverted pedestrian traffic away from protesters to ensure a safe approach was undertaken to the incident.
