Firearms seized Launceston

On Thursday 29 August 2013 Launceston CIB and Northern Drug Investigation Services conducted a number of searches throughout the day for firearms.

As a result three firearms were seized from a house in George Town Road, Newnham.  Two of which were found to have been stolen during a burglary in Poplar Parade Youngtown on 26 August 2013 and one found to have been stolen during a burglary from a house in Howell in December 2012. 

A 28 year old Newnham man has been charged with possessing stolen property and drug matters.

During another search four firearms were seized from an address in Vermont Road, Mowbray.  Of these one has been found to have been stolen during a burglary in Glenorchy last year and another from a burglary in Mayfield last year.  A large quantity of ammunition was also discovered.

Investigations are continuing into the offender in this matter.

During a third search in Lemonwood Street, Rocherlea two further firearms were seized.  The origins at this stage have not been determined. 

As a result of this search a 37 year old man was charged with firearms offences.

Launceston CIB are continuing investigations into the firearms burglaries at Youngtown, Mowbray and Mitre 10 at Longford this week.
