Fatal Single Vehicle Crash – Nook Road, Nook (Thursday, 28 April 2016)

At approximately 7:30am today (Thursday, 28 April 2016) police and emergency services were called to attend the scene of a single vehicle crash on Nook Road at Nook. The scene was located approximately 450 meters north of West Nook Road.

Senior Sergeant Darren Pendlebury said that at the scene it was discovered the 17 year old (from the Sheffield area) male rider of a motorcycle had been travelling towards Spreyton when he had lost control of the bike in the wet and slippery conditions. The rider had collided with the Armco railing on the side of the road and received fatal injuries.

Initial investigations at the scene indicate that speed was not a contributing factor to the crash.

Senior Sergeant Pendlebury stated that this tragic incident, the second fatal crash on North West roads in the last 7 days, highlights the need for everybody to slow down and drive to the road conditions. With wet weather forecast across the coast over the next few days he has implored people to take care. The tragic loss of life on our roads is a problem that we all need to take responsibility and ensure we drive to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.

Senior Sergeant Pendlebury has asked that anybody who may have seen the bike, a green Kawasaki road-trail, travelling on West Nook Road prior to the crash, or who has any information relating to the incident, to call police on 131 444.
