Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Awards

Nominations for the Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Awards (ACPVA) have been extended to 19 August, 2016.

The Awards

  • The annual Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Awards (ACVPA) recognise and reward good practice in the prevention or reduction of violence and other types of crime in Australia.
  • The awards play a vital role in highlighting effective community-based initiatives to prevent crime and violence, before it actually occurs.
  • The ACVPA are a joint initiative of the Australian, State and Territory governments, coordinated by the Australian Institute of Criminology and co-sponsored by the Law, Crime and Community Safety Council.
  • They perform a valuable service in assisting governments to identify and develop practical projects to reduce crime in the community.

Nominations

  • Businesses, community networks and members of the public are encouraged to nominate local projects of any size that have made an impact on their community by reducing crime and violence.
  • Projects may address specific groups such as rural and remote communities, women, children, youth, family, migrant, ethnic or Indigenous communities, or specific problems such as alcohol-related violence.
  • Any government agency, not-for-profit organisation or individual person making a significant contribution to a project in Australia can be nominated for an award.

ACVPA Ceremony

  • Winners will be announced at the national awards ceremony hosted at Parliament House, Canberra in November 2016.
    The exact time and date of the ceremony will be advised closer to the date.

Previous Winners

  • In 2015 national awards went to winners as diverse as a restorative justice project, a detention transition program, and a program that reduces victimisation from online fraud activity.
  • Awards of $5000 were provided to support two of these projects.
  • Programs acknowledged by the awards play a crucial role in preventing and protecting against crime and violence, and in reducing the impact of crime upon people’s lives.
