The Tasmania Police Aboriginal Strategic Plan, developed in consultation with relevant stakeholders, provides a framework by which Tasmania Police will focus on the development of relationships with the wider Aboriginal community to ensure that, through consultation, all reasonable expectations can be met.

Police will assist in identifying ways in which support can be provided to the Aboriginal community in enhancing recognition of the rights of Australian indigenous people. Tasmania Police continue to be exposed to extensive cross-cultural training to be aware of their obligations to people in custody and, in particular, the duty of care to those Aboriginal people who are considered to be at greater risk.

Tasmania Police are committed to ensuring that indigenous members of the community are appropriately represented in recruiting and welfare requirements.
