Missing Persons

'Missing Person' is anyone who is reported missing to police, whose whereabouts are unknown, and where there are fears for the safety or concerns for the welfare of that person.

Tasmania Police Missing Persons Unit

Tasmania Police has a Missing Persons Unit responsible for the state-wide overview, coordination and analysis of information in relation to missing persons.

When a person is reported missing, Police have the responsibility to:

  • Locate the missing person as expediently as possible in order to minimise trauma to the person and family; and
  • Identify any suspicious circumstances.
