The Keith Smith Community Policing Award honours those who go beyond traditional policing by building trust, fostering partnerships, and improving the social cohesion of their communities.
In June 2025, Constable Keith Smith was killed in the line of duty in an incident in the north west of Tasmania.
Keith was a well-respected and dedicated police officer who was committed to providing meaningful support to individuals while building lasting relationships founded on trust and service. These values – service and support – defined his 25-year career.
Keith carried himself with quiet professionalism and calm resolve, and made a real difference in the lives of everyday Tasmanians in a way that was overwhelmingly positive and long-lasting.
Keith’s 25 years’ experience were not merely measured in time served, but in lives touched, communities protected, and the countless moments where his presence made a difference.
