Stolen property searching for owners

Bellerive Criminal Investigation Branch officers are seeking the owners of a large quantity of stolen property suspected as having been stolen from the Lauderdale, Howrah, Bellerive, Hobart, Sandy Bay, Lutana and Moonah areas.

A 48-year-old man from the Eastern Shore has been charged with committing nine burglaries, 12 stealings and possessing stolen property from vehicles, houses and sheds.

Although a large amount of stolen property has been returned to the owners some property is yet to be matched with its owners.  Police suspect some of the property has not been reported stolen or the owners are not aware it is missing.

Some of the property is quite unique and of some value.

Police have 20 bottles of wine that are suspected of having been stolen.  Two bottles have been marked by the owner in handwriting.   The collection comprises wines from a number of different countries.  One bottle is valued at $700 and another at $300 (not pictured).  It is suspected the majority of the wines are valued at over $100 each.

A set of large field or naval binoculars have been recovered that are very unusual.

Several tools marked with spray paint form part of the haul.

A number of electrical tools have been recovered, including an uncommon large blue multimeter.

Detective Sergeant Terry McCulloch said:

“This was a prolific burglar and the detectives who recovered the stolen property filled a van and four cars with the haul.

“We ended up filling three offices with outboard motors, motor cycle gear, electrical items and basically anything you would find in a shed.

“A lot of the property has been returned to owners through a process of matching items with burglary reports on our crime databases.

“The frustrating thing is we still have property in one office and can’t confirm the owners.”

Anyone who thinks the property in the photographs might belong to them is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131444 or Bellerive CIB on 61732840
