What is Graffiti?

Graffiti is a form of street art that generally involves drawing pictures or writing words on walls or surfaces in public areas, often with a spray can. It’s illegal if done without the permission of the owners of the spaces.

What can be reported online?

You can report Graffiti online if:

  • your property or premises has been subject to Graffiti and you’d like to report online
  • you are authorised to report on behalf of your business / employer
  • you require a Tasmania Police reference number for insurance or reporting purposes
  • you have evidence of the offender or vehicle including digital evidence (photo, video/CCTV footage).

What can NOT be reported online?

  • if you are witnessing graffiti taking place right now, call Tasmania Police on 131 444
  • if you are not authorised to report on behalf of your business / employer
  • if the graffiti was not recently done
  • if the graffiti is not obscene and has been done lawfully, on someone else’s property, with their consent.

What do I need to submit a report?

Before you make your report, make sure you have:

  • a current and valid email address or mobile phone number – you will need to validate your email address or mobile number when you begin your report
  • business details including business name, ABN, address and contact details
  • details of the incident including but not limited to:
    • date and time incident occurred
    • location / address
    • description of graffiti (images, words, tags etc.)
    • details about the offenders (if known)
    • any witnesses
  • any evidence (photos/videos including CCTV footage etc.)

What happens after I submit a report?

Upon completion of your report you will receive a police report reference number. This reference number can be used for insurance purposes or for any further enquiries regarding the matter.

What police response should I expect?

It’s important to understand that police will only contact you if further information is required, or if there is an outcome such as an arrest or recovery of stolen property.
