What is Fuel Drive Off?
Fuel Drive Off is when a driver obtains fuel from a petrol station and drives off without paying for the fuel.
What can be reported online?
You can report Fuel Drive Off online if:
- you are authorised to report on behalf of your business / employer
- you require a Tasmania Police reference number for insurance or reporting purposes
- you have evidence of the offender or vehicle including digital evidence (photo, video/CCTV footage).
What can NOT be reported online?
- if you are not authorised to report on behalf of your business / employer
- if you were threatened, or any weapons were involved, contact Tasmania Police on 131 444
- someone attempted to pay for fuel, but was unable to (it is recommended to take the person’s details with a promise to pay at a later date – if the person has not returned to pay for the the fuel in a reasonable time, it can then be reported online)
- theft from inside the store occurred – this should be reported as shoplifting
- equipment from outside the store was taken – this should be reported as theft.
What do I need to submit a report?
Before you make your report, make sure you have:
- a current and valid email address or mobile phone number – you will need to validate your email address or mobile number when you begin your report
- business details including business name, ABN, address and contact details
- details of the incident including but not limited to:
- date and time incident occurred
- location / address
- type, amount and value of fuel taken
- any witnesses
- Any evidence (photos/videos including CCTV footage etc.)
What happens after I submit a report?
Upon completion of your report you will receive a police report reference number. This reference number can be used for insurance purposes or for any further enquiries regarding the matter.
What police response should I expect?
It’s important to understand that police will only contact you if further information is required, or if there is an outcome such as an arrest or recovery of stolen property.
