A Newnham man in his 30s is assisting police with enquiries after an incident in Cedar Street this afternoon.

The man had barricaded himself in his home. He was alone at the time. 

Police closed the street as a precaution. After four hours, during which police talked to the man, he agreed to leave the property and was taken into custody.

Police searched the home and recovered two firearms.

No one was injured in the incident.

Investigations are continuing and no charges have been laid at this time.
